Atonement of Christ

When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you ….. —Exodus 12:13

Thank God for the blood! When the death angel saw the blood applied to the door posts of the Israelites in Egypt, he passed over. When we stand before the judgment seat of God, and He sees the blood of His son, we are also saved from eternal death.

There is power in the blood of Jesus to save from the deepest pit of sin. When a person is addicted to the power of the flesh and it seems there is no possible way for him to live holy, do not forget that the blood of Jesus can make the vilest sinner clean. Although Jesus died almost 2000 years ago, the blood has lost none of its power.Read more

The Spirit of Feet Washing; Humility

Serving the Lord with all humility of mind…. —Acts 20:19a

I thank God for the opportunity to have known saints, pillars in the church, who set an example before me of true humility and service to the Lord. We live in a self-focused, proud generation where people’s goals and dreams are fueled by carnal ambitions. This is also prevalent in the religious world, where many ministers are proud and self-serving. It is an ugly thing to see professed ministers of the gospel striving for position and exaltation of man, jealous of the spiritual success of others.

On the other hand, there is nothing more beautiful than to see people serving the Lord with ALL humility of mind. What a blessing it is that in the Church of God there are people who follow the example of our Lord in humility. Where there is strife and contention, you will usually find a carnal, proud spirit at work. Humility is essential and is evidence for which to look when seeking for true ministers of the gospel.Read more

Buried in Baptism

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. —Acts 2:41

It would have been wonderful to have beheld these three thousand souls being baptized on the Day of Pentecost so many years ago. Imagine the long lines of new converts waiting in anticipation for their turn to enter the water. See the smiles and hear the rejoicing and singing. Hear the shouts of praise and watch the hands in the air raised in adoration to Jesus Christ. What a profound impact that sight must have had on the people looking on who had rejected Christ.Read more

The Gift of Tongues

“Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them….” —Acts 4:8

When filled with the Holy Ghost, Peter didn’t fall over, shake, babble, or foam at the mouth; but he spake in boldness, clarity, and power of faith in a resurrected Lord. What a wonderful blessing it is to experience the reality of Holy Spirit baptism which empowers and enables us to live a holy life.

In this issue of The Gospel Truth, I address the subject of speaking in tongues. It is a large subject and is so important that I increased the size of the paper. Even at that, there is much more that could be written. The Bible is very clear about what occurred on the day of Pentecost when the disciples spoke with tongues. They were able to preach in intelligible languages they had not previously known by a divine gift of the Spirit. The devil has perverted the simplicity of this experience and deceived millions of people into thinking that there is a heavenly language and that speaking/praying ecstatically with unintelligible speech is of the Holy Spirit. Read more

The Gift of the Spirit

“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” —John 7:38-39

The essence of full salvation is founded in the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit brings life and vitality to those who have been filled with the sweetness of His presence. What a wonderful experience to have the Spirit make His abode in this earthly temple.Read more
