While not negating the necessity of salvation, Christ demonstrated the importance of charitable, humanitarian work. How, as God’s people, can so many discount the power of charity? It grieved God when, after He nurtured and cared for His people Israel, they still turned their back on Him and committed spiritual adultery by following after other gods. God created mankind for there to be oneness and unity, but in his sinfulness, man has brought brokenness and pain. God hates “putting away” and divorce, for He understands the consequences of such action.Read more

 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? —Micah 6:8

We owe a debt to our Savior which can never be repaid. We were unworthy and undeserving of His grace and love, yet He forgave us. There are many important teachings in the Bible, but humility is one of the greatest. God wants every child of His to walk in humility and love. It is saddening to see spiritual pride so often exhibited by people who have knowledge of so much truth.

The burden God placed on me for this quarter is on the subject of self-righteousness. While this is a deviation from the type of theological truths studied in past quarters, it is just as vital. We can have understanding of many truths and doctrines; but if we have spiritual pride and trust in our own works, we will miss the true blessings of the Kingdom in this life and in the life to come.Read more

When I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you ….. —Exodus 12:13

Thank God for the blood! When the death angel saw the blood applied to the door posts of the Israelites in Egypt, he passed over. When we stand before the judgment seat of God, and He sees the blood of His son, we are also saved from eternal death.

There is power in the blood of Jesus to save from the deepest pit of sin. When a person is addicted to the power of the flesh and it seems there is no possible way for him to live holy, do not forget that the blood of Jesus can make the vilest sinner clean. Although Jesus died almost 2000 years ago, the blood has lost none of its power.Read more

Serving the Lord with all humility of mind…. —Acts 20:19a

I thank God for the opportunity to have known saints, pillars in the church, who set an example before me of true humility and service to the Lord. We live in a self-focused, proud generation where people’s goals and dreams are fueled by carnal ambitions. This is also prevalent in the religious world, where many ministers are proud and self-serving. It is an ugly thing to see professed ministers of the gospel striving for position and exaltation of man, jealous of the spiritual success of others.

On the other hand, there is nothing more beautiful than to see people serving the Lord with ALL humility of mind. What a blessing it is that in the Church of God there are people who follow the example of our Lord in humility. Where there is strife and contention, you will usually find a carnal, proud spirit at work. Humility is essential and is evidence for which to look when seeking for true ministers of the gospel.Read more
